Featured Article - Home Office Setup for Online Students

One of the first things an online student needs is a quiet, comfortable, productive space for uninterrupted study. You need to be mentally and physically organized to be productive.

Here are some basic steps to follow in designing your home study space:

  • Have a plan. Don't just let your study space just happen. Too many online students set up a table, put the computer on it and find a chair, but never step back and establish the best way to function.
  • Establish a separate area. To have a productive home study area, be sure that it in fact an office, not a corner of the kitchen, an end of the bedroom, or section of the living room. Learning online is the business of your future. So treat a home study area in the same way you would a corporate office. Find the right space and set it up for business.
  • Leave your work in place. "Unless you can block off your work, you are going to have to gather up everything at the end of the day or things will be scattered and lost." You need a permanent home for your work so that textbooks, notes, research, and papers stay in one place.
